The Zimmer Service Center United Late Model Series made their first of two visits to Bradford Speedway Sunday night on Fathers Day and again the super late models did not disappoint the race fans with some stellar racing. Garland, PA, Wyatt Scott picked up his first career ULMS Late Model Series win over his father David “Slowride”Scott and took a stranglehold of the Chew on This Jerky ULMS Rookie of Year point lead and moved him up to second in the overall 2020 ULMS point chase. The third generation racer picked up his biggest career win and a cool $2500 back home in his family owned #XFactor Rocket Chassis.
Doug Eck set the fastest lap of the evening in the Integra Shocks Qualifying presented by Jays Auto Wrecking Fast Time with a quick lap of 14.986 seconds around the tight little highbank ¼ mile oval. Wyatt and his father David won the two ULMS Late Model Series heats as Wyatt battled Eck throughout the entire eight lap heat race while David Scott won without too much trouble in heat number two. The top four redraw saw the front row consisting of Wyatt Scott and Eck who was looking for back to back wins on the weekend, with winning Saturday night at an unsanctioned event.
With ceremonial fireworks going off, Wyatt Scott and Doug Eck paced the ULMS field to John Powell’s green flag with Eck taking the lead at the start from his outside position. The opening lap saw Eck by a nosepiece over Wyatt, David Scott, Mike Wonderling and Andy Boozel be your top five. Lap two would see Eck hold a half car length over the young Scott at the stripe as the duo raced side by side around the ¼ mile oval and lap three it was Wyatt Scott taking the lead officially by a nose piece over Eck. During the wild opening three laps with the race leaders, David Scott sat comfortably in third with Andy Boozel now in fourth and Brad Mesler taking fifth away from Wonderling. Wonderling would take fifth back from Mesler on lap 8 using the high side and with six laps in the books the yellow lights came on for Dylan Fenton. Wyatt held off Eck and his father David on the restart to lead lap seven as Wonderling moved into fourth using the high lane and looking to make a charge on Slowride for third. With eleven laps in the books, Boozel came back up to regrab fourth from Wonderling as Mesler and Wonderling traded fifth back and forth. Lap 12 would see the #18 of Wonderling duck to the inside of Mesler only to make contact in turn three spinning both around along with seventh place running Jason Dobson who was reeling both Wonderling and Mesler in came to a stop to avoid the incident. All three cars were charged to be In the caution. One more lap was completed on lap 13 when 6th place running Garrett Mott rode the backstretch wall and came to a stop.
The lap 14 restart Slowride would power to the high lane and run door to door with Eck as his Son Wyatt pulled away by few car lengths and at the halfway mark it was Wyatt, Eck, David Scott, Boozel, and Kyle Scott filling out the top three. Lap 17 would see former two time ULMS Bradford winner, Greg Oakes go to the cushion and move around Wonderling for seventh and then take sixth from Nathan Hill with ten to go. During this time Slowride who was using the high groove snuck under Eck in turn three to grab second on lap 18 as his son Wyatt had built a half straightaway lead. Oakes would steal fifth on lap 21 as Kyle Scott pushed up the track and he would fall to seventh as Hill grabbed sixth and Wonderling would then grab seventh from Kyle Scott on lap 23. David started to chip away at his son’s lead as all eyes were on Greg Oakes rim riding around the high bank ¼ mile now in fourth and all over Doug Eck for third. With five to go Wyatt saw his lead shrink down to five car lengths over his legendary father who was charging hard in the Terry Suppa owned #4s Bernheisel Lazer by Ba Nolte. Oakes had slipped up as Boozel, Hill and Wonderling all got around Oakes. With three laps to go, Wonderling and Hill came together and to a stop to bring out the caution.
With a three lap shootout, Wyatt leading the field in the Delaware restart with his father taking the low line putting Doug Eck on the outside with a full outside lane to pull off his first ULMS win and possible redemption from the 2016 Bradford Speedway ULMS win that he saw slip away on the final lap. The restart saw Wyatt slide out towards the wall keeping Eck behind him and then ducking back to the bottom as they rolled into turn one leaving the door open for his dad to stick his nose along side the door of the XFactor machine. As they field came for two to go, Slowride was door to door with his son for the lead as Eck was on the back bumper of the #4s machine and Greg Oakes having the top lane all to himself. With John Powell white flag waving David was along side his son as they went into turn one and down the backstretch. Wyatt would pinch his dad going into turn three and the pair would come out side by side with the younger Scott grabbing the win over his dad by half a car length at the finish. Oakes made a last lap pass on Eck for third with Andy Boozel coming home fifth.
