The Zimmer Service Center United Late Model Series (ULMS) will finally kick off their 20th anniversary season on Friday June 12 at Thunder Mountain Speedway, just south of Brookville, PA. The 30-lap main event will pay $3000 to win and $300 to start. Joining the ULMS Late Model Series will be Semi-Lates, Pure Stocks, and FWDs. It will also be Elk County Humane Society Night. They will have some raffles to benefit the shelter.

“We are excited to get going finally, stated ULMS owner, Chris Zuver. Its been a very long spring without racing as we were suppose have hit the track back in late March at Williams Grove and Port Royal, but with Covid19 and the government restrictions as we all know, there haven’t been much going on until the past week or so. We have lost our first eight dates on our 25 race schedule and there is still lot of uncertainty at some tracks including the New York state tracks that lot has changed and will change with our schedule for the rest of the year.”

Everyone in attendance starting on June 12th will be required to sign a waiver before entering the track acknowledging the risks involved in attending a large event during the COVID-19 pandemic. The waiver is available on our website (https://thundermountainspeedwaypa.files.wordpress.com/2020/06/release-form.pdf) and fans are encouraged to bring a signed copy of the waiver with them to limit contact with our employees upon arrival. Every fan in attendance will receive a token on a key chain to bring along to future races verifying that they have filled out the COVID-19 waiver. We will have tables set up by the grandstand entrance if you did not bring a form, and you can fill one out at the track. This will slow up the process at the gate, so once again we encourage everyone to print one out at home.

The series ownership and marketing partners including Ron and Mary Zimmer of Zimmer Service Center want to thank Rob Leonard and Maria Pirazzi for having our series kick off their 2020 season next Friday June 12th. “Rob and Maria have been great friends with me since they took the lease over and everyone at the facility has always treated our organization with nothing but class and I am proud to not just call them friends of mine but great partners for our series, stated Zuver.”

Race fans can expect a full house on opening night for both the ULMS Late Models and Thunder Mtn Speedway as this will be the first sanctioned late model event in the northeast for 2020. Fans can expect to see defending series, two time champion, Max Blair along with Mike Wonderling, Jason Dobson, David Scott, Greg Oakes, leading the ULMS contingent along with Thunder Mountain Speedway defending champion, Chris Hackett, Matt Lux, Doug Drown, Kyle Knapp, Charlie Powell, Gale Huey, Michael Lake, Mike Pegher Jr., Jared Miley, Alex Ferree, Dave Hess Jr., Russ King along with so many other top regional drivers. “Realistically this could be one of the biggest field of cars to attend Thunder Mountain for a $3000 to win event, said Zuver.”

We encourage all fans to wear a mask, social distance, and follow CDC guidelines.

Mylaps transponder system will be used for all timing and scoring. ULMS Racing Series procedures will be in place, which includes time trials, minimum 8 lap qualifying heat events, consolation events (if needed) and 30 lap main event. Time Trials per ULMS rules will be the following: 3 heats will be straight up; 4 heats will result in A&B group qualifying. If there are 4 heats or less, the top 2 heat finishers will redraw for their feature starting positions, otherwise, heat winner only will redraw (5 or 6 heats). The ULMS Late Model Series tire rule is Hoosier 1300 or American Racer 44 or harder on all 4 corners. All late model teams must present their cars along with safety equipment at pre-race safety and car inspection. No cars will be allowed on the track before completing tech.

Drivers who are late and are more than 1 car out of order for qualifying will only receive one (1) lap in qualifying. If qualifying is A-B group qualifying and car is not in group assigned, then no time will be recorded (Group A qualifies with Group A. etc). Drivers who fail to arrive in lineup in time will start scratch in the event and must past tech in lineup area. (heat, consi or feature). ULMS Integra Shocks Qualifying Time Trials will be held to determine the qualifying heat race lineups.

ULMS registration will open at 5pm with ULMS tech opening at 520pm. It is recommended that all teams, please print off the new 2020 ULMS Registration form from the website at http://ulmsracing.com/ulms-driver-registration/ to speed up the process and help limit overcrowding and keep the social distancing as much as possible.   ULMS Registration will end and driver meeting will be at 645pm at the ULMS Command Center with ULMS tech ending at 650pm. ULMS Hot Laps will begin shortly thereafter around 7:10PM with ULMS Integra Shock Qualifying that kicks off the 2020 Jays Auto Wrecking Fast Time Point Championship battle is tentatively schedule after opening ceremonies at 730pm. ULMS Entry Fee will be $50 for the event and the series as please bring correct change if possible to limit exposure and stick with the CDC guidelines as much as possible. Thunder Mtn Speedway utilizes the AMB Transponder system.

The Jays Auto Wrecking Fast Time of the Year award will see $500 going to the overall Fast Time point leader at end of the year and Jay’s Auto Wrecking will put another $500 into the overall point fund. The Integra Shocks Qualifying presented by Jay’s Auto Wrecking will award the top five overall fast times the following points, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 at each event, these are also the same amount of points that are awarded in each heat event for the top five for the overall ULMS point fund.

Another new partner joining the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series is 2R Excavating. Each main event, any driver that improves their position from start to finish will receive a point for each position they gain. The overall season Hard Charger in points at the end of the season will be awarded $500 as the 2R Excavating Hard Charger of the Year. Each event’s hard charger will receive a contingency certificate from Vahlco Wheels.

The 2020 ULMS Rookie of the Year is presented by Chew on This Jerky. With the number of events being slashed from the original schedule, due to Covid19 restrictions, the 2020 Chew on This Jerky Rookie of Year will be chasing for either $500 or $700, based on either seven or less events are ran, the RoY will receive $500 and over seven events will see the ROY receive minimum of $700 from Chew on This Jerky. We encourage all drivers who committed to the ROY program before Covid19 to reach out to ULMS Management to pledge their commitment still or waive their prior commitment for another year. The deadline to commit to run for the Chew on This Jerky RoY will be at the conclusion of next Friday night’s event at Thunder Mtn.

The Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series has reworked the 2020 point fund due to the number of events already lost due to Covid 19 and the expected loss of events of the New York State tracks. The following point funds is based on the number of events that the series is expecting to complete for the 20th anniversary season that has seen the first third of the schedule decimated by Covid19 and government restrictions. “This is not ideally the point fund we were planning on this year but with so much uncertainty at this time, this is what we can do realistically along with making sure our marketing partners are still satisfied and they are not over spending based on the less amount of shows than originally scheduled and financially agreed on per the original 25 event schedule, stated Zuver. Zuver continued, I would rather take less this year from our great partners and keep them on board for another 10 plus years with our program than pinch them this year when the entire racing industry and economy has taken such a hit. We intend to be around for many more years in this sport and I expect to keep all our partners and new additional ones down the road happy.”
