Troutman WINS “Grady’s Decision Night” at Hummingbird!
Hyndman, PA resident Drake Troutman captured his second Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series victory of the year Saturday night at Hummingbird Speedway in the “Grady’s Decision Night” event paying $5,000.00 to win. It was a historic night for the speedway as they held their biggest event in track history with the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series & Elite Motorsports United E-Mod Series. At the end, it was Drake Troutman though would end up in Close Racing Supply Victory Lane etching himself into the history books their.
With 24 entries, the Jay’s United Late Model Series set out for Lindemuth Laser Etching Qualifying that saw Drake Troutman set fast time. Troutman would claim Rocket Chassis heat race number one, Dwayne Brooks won Keizer Racing Wheels heat race number two and Jon Lee won Swift Springs heat race number three. Three Rivers Karting & Entertainment Park redraw put Falls Creek, PA’s Dwayne Brooks and Allison Park, PA’s Colton Flinner on the front row.
A lengthy intermission in honor of “Grady’s” would commence before the main events. A “Pie to the Face” bidding war would kick it off as racers and fans alike could bid on pieing United Late Model & E-Mod Series CEO Trevor Zuver in the face as well as Garage Crawl and Hummingbird Speedway promoter John McConnell. In addition, the track owner Peach Caltagarone and Hummingbids own lineup official Kristy Conner would partake in a arm wrestling match at the flagstand to see who was the strongest. All proceeds went to the non-profit organization “Grady’s Decision”. Finally, a helmet pass was conducted by the drivers of both the United Late Model & E-Mod Series for longtime supporter and multi-time champion of the United Late Model Series, “Terry Suppa”. One thousand and fifty three dollars was raised for Suppa via the helmet pass to help aid medical costs as he battles ongoing medical issues.
The thirty lap main event finally set to go green would come to an abrupt halt as Lindemuth Laser Etching Elite Driver Logan Zarin in his #1z Rocket Chassis lost the left front wheel in parade laps. The Zarin racing team were able to reattach the wheel and then tag the field. Dwayne Brooks led the field to the green. A lap eight caution for Kenny Shaffer in his #13x Rocket Chassis would reset the field, then a controversial yellow on lap 23 involving the third place running #48 of Colton Flinner, , #27 of Tony White and #5L of Jon Lee. Lee would have to retire from the event due to damage sustained. Troutman would go on to lead the rest of the event over second place Ken Schaltenbrand and third place finishing Jared Miley. This would be Troutman’s third ever Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series victory and continue his streak of podiums with the series that now extends to five.
The Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series thanked everyone that came out in support of the “Grady’s Decision Night” at Hummingbird Speedway for another historic night of racing.
