The Zimmer Service Center United Late Model Series returned to Williams Grove Speedway for the second and final time of the young 2022 season. A very windy and chilly evening saw fifteen late models return from last weeks season opener for the series and the track.

Jason Covert set the overall Integra Shocks fast time in hot lap qualifying along with winning his heat along with Gene Knaub. Rick Eckert would grab the pole position in the Jay’s Auto Wrecking Redraw as all the redraw spots were taken leaving the final and top spot available for the Hall of Famer. Covert would take the $100 Jay’s Auto Wrecking Unlucky Dog Redraw award for the worse redraw pill.

With weather moving in again as it did last week, the track and series was in hurry up mode and the field quickly went green only to see the caution lights come on before the field left turn four as a multi car incident saw the cars of 2022 Chew on this Jerky Rookie of Year contender Colton Flinner along with Daulton Bigler and David Stamm sitting in turn 4. Bigler received the worse damage and was done for the night.

On the restart, Eckert beat Knaub to turn one. Gregg Satterlee dove under Knaub in turn two with Covert looking to make it three wide down the back stretch. As the field hit turn 3, Eckert was already 4 car lengths ahead of Satterlee and Knaub, with Knaub being credited with second at the line for lap 1. Satterlee completed the pass on Knaub in turn two to set his sites on Eckert. Covert would slide high in turn four to allow Andy Haus to take fourth and behind them was a three wide battle with 2015 ULMS champion, Jared Miley, Danny Snyder and Tylor Emery.

Haus would jump the cushion in turn one on lap 4 to allow Covert and Miley to move on by and now had Emory on his rear spoiler. As the laps clicked off, Eckert would pick off lap cars and started to distance himself from Satterlee. With ten to go, the #0 of Eckert had built a 8 second lead over Satterlee. All eyes now were on the battle for third between Knaub, Covert and Miley who were at times three wide for third. The remaining laps saw Eckert build his lead even more and the battle for third stayed the same with Knaub holding off Covert who was running the bottom and Miley rim riding with Knaub.

At the checkers it was Rick Eckert with a 12.263 second late model victory over last week’s winner Gregg Satterlee followed by Knaub, Covert and Miley.
