Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, which seems to been a very short Covid racing summer season. It also marks the biggest money weekend of the year for the Zimmer Service Center United Late Model Series. Over $19,000 is available during the three day holiday weekend at Bedford, Port Royal and Selinsgrove for the ULMS Late Model Series competitors.
Friday September 4 will see the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Models make a return trip to Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway. Last month saw Matt Sponaugle pick up his first career ULMS win at Bedford. The annual Labor Day 55 event will award the winner $7055 and pay $500 to start.
“We are very excited to be back at Bedford for the annual Labor Day 55 event and sanction their second biggest late model event of the year at the track, stated ULMS Series owner, Chris Zuver.” Bedford locals of Jeff Rine, Andy Haus, Chuck Clise, Nathan Lasalle, Sponaugle will be defending their own turf from two time defending series champion and current point leader, Max Blair who has a win at Bedford back in 2014. Joining Blair will be Wyatt Scott, Jason Dobson, David Scott and Mike Pegher are expected to be on hand for the ULMS series along with regional stars of Rick Eckert, Jason Covert, Matt Cosner, Bryan Bernheisel, Gregg Satterlee and Mason Zeigler.
Joining the ULMS Late Models at Bedford are the modifieds and pure stocks. Gates open Friday night at 5pm for Bedford Speedway, with Driver Meeting and Registration closing at 6:40PM. ULMS Hot Laps will be at 7pm with ULMS Integra Shock Qualifying beginning at 7:30pm. Grandstand Admission is $25, Kids 12 and under are Free, and all Pit Passes are $35. The ULMS Entry Fee is $50. Bedford uses the Mylaps transponder system for all timing and scoring.
On Saturday, September 5 the opening day of the 166th Annual Juniata County Fair and Port Royal Speedway host two ULMS main events paying over $8000 total. The 17th annual Butch Renninger Memorial for the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series will pay $5333 to win and $333 to start the 33 lap main event. Last year, Max Blair picked up his first career Port Royal Speedway win during the Renninger Memorial. Tyler Bare picked up his only ULMS win during the 2018 Renninger Memorial. Also, the August 1st makeup feature paying $3000 to win and $300 to start will also be on the program.
Andy Haus currently leads the Port Royal Speedway late model points over Colton Flinner, Trevor Feathers, Dylan Yoder, Mike Lupfer, Delaware’s Ross Robinson and Gary Stuhler Lupfer.
Adult Admission is $25 with Students being $10 and children 12 and under are free. Pit Passes are $35 and ULMS Entry Fee is $50 for the Renninger Memorial. Port Royal Speedway uses the Mylaps transponder system for all timing and scoring.
On Sunday, September 6th the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series head to Selinsgrove Speedway featuring a 30 lap $4000 to win with $300 to start event on the table, presented by Selinsgrove Ford. The event is also the final event of the North vs South Civil War Late Model Series that had events between Selinsgrove and Williams Grove.
Jeff Rine is the current point leader at Selinsgrove. Rine no doubt will be looking to grab his first ever ULMS series win during the Labor Day weekend and there no place better than his home track at Selinsgrove. Jim Yoder sits second in Selinsgrove points with Brett Schadel, Andy Haus, Hayes Mattern, Dave Brouse Jr, Nathan Long and Dylan Yoder all being on hand along with defending track champion, Coleby Frye, Bernheisel, Ken Trevitz and many others will be on hand, including Eckert, Satterlee, Covert, Robinson.
Joining the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series will be the 410 sprint cars, and road runners. ULMS Entry Fee is $50. Selinsgrove Speedway uses the Mylaps transponder system for all timing and scoring. Race time is 7pm with gates opening at 4pm.
Max Blair is the current series point leader and is also the Jay Auto Wrecking Fast Time of Year point leader. Jason Dobson is on top of the 2R Excavating Hard Charger of the Year point chase and Wyatt Scott is currently your Chew on This Jerky Rookie of the Year point leader over Dobson.
It is recommended that all teams, please print off the new 2020 ULMS Registration form from the website at http://ulmsracing.com/ulms-driver-registration/ to speed up the process and help limit overcrowding and keep the social distancing as much as possible. ULMS Entry Fee will be $50 and the series ask please bring correct change if possible to limit exposure and stick with the CDC guidelines as much as possible.
ULMS Racing Series procedures will be in place, which includes hot lap and time trials, minimum 8 lap qualifying heat events, consolation events (if needed) and main event. Time Trials per ULMS rules will be the following: 3 heats will be straight up; 4 heats will result in A&B group qualifying. If there are 4 heats or less, the top 2 heat finishers will redraw for their feature starting positions, otherwise, heat winner only will redraw (5 or 6 heats). The ULMS Late Model Series tire rule is Hoosier 1300 or American Racer 44 or harder on all 4 corners. All late model teams must present their cars along with safety equipment at pre-race safety and car inspection. No cars will be allowed on the track before completing tech.
Drivers who are late and are more than 1 car out of order for qualifying will only receive one (1) lap in qualifying. If qualifying is A-B group qualifying and car is not in group assigned, then no time will be recorded (Group A qualifies with Group A. etc). Drivers who fail to arrive in lineup in time will start scratch in the event and must past tech in lineup area. (heat, consi or feature). ULMS Integra Shocks Qualifying Time Trials will be held to determine the qualifying heat race lineup.
