Freedom Motorsports Park hosted the annual Jason Dunham Memorial for the first time in memory and honor of the Medal of Honor recipient and Scio, NY native. The US Marine Corporal died from wounds he suffered during an attack in 2004 in Iraq that resulted in him saving his fellow US Marine lives.
The 30 lap main event saw the field led on the track by a pair of US Navy and US Marine personnel trucks with Michael Wonderling leading the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Models in a missing man formation carrying the nation’s colors in great tribute and honor to his fellow Scio, New York neighbor and friend.
Once the field was set to go green, Max Blair jumped out quickly over Wonderling, David Scott, Greg Oakes and Chad Wright to lead lap 1. Zack Carley began pressuring Wright for fifth and on lap 3 would take the fifth spot from Wright. Scott was all over Wonderling for the runner up spot as Blair was half a straightaway lead in the opening five laps. Scott would take second on lap six in turn 4 on Wonderling as Blair would enter lap traffic the very next lap.

Blair would hold his straightaway lead over Slowride with ten laps in as the top five were still the same. By lap 15 the #4s of Scott had chipped Blair’s lead down to about a half straightaway. Oakes and Wonderling were in midst of a tight battle for third and Oakes would get by Wonderling only to see the yellow lights flash for 7th place running Dutch Davies coming to a stop in turn 4 and Wonderling regaining third by electronic scoring from the previous lap.
With eight laps remaining the crowd was anticipating a battle of the heavy hitters of Blair and Scott finish. Blair refired the field at the green immediately pulled away from David Scott. Chad Wright finally regained 5th from Carley on lap 24 as Oakes and Wonderling picked up their battle for third again with Oakes officially taking third from Wonderling. The final laps clicked off as Blair raced his way to his 4th USMC Corporal Jason Dunham Memorial and his fifth ULMS series win for 2019. Scott came home second and would take the Freedom Motorsports Park late model track championship title. Oakes was third followed by Wonderling, Wright, Carley, Wyatt Scott, Nathan Hill, Doug Eck and Jason Dobson rounding out the top 10.
