Mason Lobb clinches 2024 Elite Motorsports United E-Mod Series Championship!

The eighteen year old Frewsburg, New York native Mason Lobb won his first ever Elite Motorsports United E-Mod Series Points Championship on Saturday, October 12, 2024 with his runner up finish in the annual “Steel City Stampede” event!

Coming into the final points event of the 2024 UMP DirtCar sanctioned Elite Motorsport’s United E-Mod Series, Lobb was faced with controversy and was unsure on what to do in the final weeks leading up to the event.  Just weeks out from the event, Lobb who also competes in competitive travel ice hockey was injured during a game and the result was a broken ankle and fibula.  After having spoken with Elite Motorsport’s United E-Mod Series Director, Trevor Zuver,… Lobb had to decide on weather putting veteran and long time racer, his father John Lobb, or UMP Modified standout Dan Davies in the #28 Lethal Chassis.  These options granted Lobb a hardship waiver to miss the event and therefore would receive the minimum show up points alongside keeping his point fund eligibility with the series.  The other option was Lobb run the race with the injury.  The points battle coming into the event were extremely close between the top three Lindemuth Laser Etching Elite Drivers of Mason Lobb, Vinnie DePizzo, and Garrett Calvert with other such as Ty Rhoades, Greg Hauger, Tim Gould, Jim Plance and JJ Bammettzreider close behind.  Series Director, Trevor Zuver explained there was a good possibility that the points championship would be likely lost from his grasp if he didn’t run the event due the extremely close nature of the top three. After speaking, Lobb notified series officials he would attend and race the full event for his points.

Coming into the weekend, Lobb unloaded his #28 Lethal Chassis with his family owned team for practice on Thursday.  Speaking after the event, he notified the series officials they were happy with the results for the evening and that the injury was definitely something that may hinder the driving capability of the young driver.  Friday’s event saw Lobb come home third in United Construction & Pressure Washing Heat Race One behind fellow Lindemuth Laser Etching Elite Driver Vinnie DePizzo and winner Troy Johnson.  After the events, Lobb was now set to start from inside the third row in the fifth position for Saturday’s Elite Motorsports United E-Mod Series “Steel City Stampede” main event!  In front of him, twenty laps, a chance at his first championship, and Vinnie DePizzo with a chance to steal it all away!

Lobb who had planned on just running a couple laps to take his points and pull off coming into the weekend didn’t expect to be starting up front but his team set him up for success and the young driver from Frewsburg kept it underneath him with one healthy leg for the weekend!  Coming to the green in Saturday’s main event, Lobb and Rhoades were quick to make passes putting Lobb inside the top three.  Running consistent and gaining in the opening laps, the rain came and left a thirty minute intermission.  Once back under way, Lobb continued to pursue and hit his marks knowing the pressure was on to stay up front to win his first ever UMP DirtCar sanctioned Elite Motorsports United E-Mod Series Championship. In front of him, Rhoades would eventually catch some slime in the bottom of one spinning him around, then Reinwald would push off turn two falling back putting Lobb now in the runner up position!  When it was all said and done, Lobb crossed the line second ahead of DePizzo, Calvert, and Rhoades securing his spot in the history books as a Elite Motorsports United E-Mod Series Champion.
