KEITH BARBARA CAPTURES RED MILEY RUMBLE AT PPMS OVER FAST CHARGING FERREE
Keith Barbara captured the 35 lap Red Miley Rumble, Zimmer’s Service Center Inc. ULMS Late Model Series event last night at Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway in Noblestown, PA. Barbara held off a very fast closing Alex Ferree to win by .184 seconds. The win was worth $3053 for South Park, Pennsylvania veteran.
Keith Barbara and newly enshrined dirt late model Hall of Famer, Davey Johnson paced the 17 car field. The Juice used the outside pole to his advantage to lead Barbara and rest of the field into turn one and began to set a torrid pace. With five laps in the books, Johnson in his famous #1J had a 10 car length lead over Barbara with Alex Ferree now in third with Colton Flinner and Jared Miley fifth. Lap 10 quickly clicked off and Davey J. was entering heavy lap traffic allowing Barbara and Ferree to close in as Mike Pegher in the Lynn Geisler #1C was now fifth. With fifteen laps Barbara was now within few car lengths of Davey Johnson as it appeared the #1 J machine tires began to fade and A-Train of Alex Ferree was closing in on both of them very fast as he turned in the events fastest lap of the night. As lap seventeen was clicking off the board, the #17 of Barbara made a turn four slide job on the 1J of Johnson to take the lead and immediately began to pull away from Johnson as he quickly felt the pressure from Ferree.
Lap 20 clicked off the scoreboard and Barbara had a 3 second lead over Johnson who was still fending off Ferree. Lap 27 saw the only caution of the event for John Flinner who slowed in turn 2. The Delaware restart saw Johnson take the outside position behind Barbara with Ferree on the inside. On the restart Barbara again took off as Johnson spun the tires and faded to fourth by turn 1 as the Colton Flinner was now third. As Barbara built a full second plus lead over Ferree lap 31 to the checkers had the fans on their feet watching the A-TRAIN roll around the top and closing in fast on Barbara clicking off .4 of a second with two to go. As the pair roared down the front stretch to take the white flag, Barbara held the middle groove as Ferree kept his right rear spoiler against the wall and came up a car length short at the finish by .184 seconds. Following Barbara and Ferree, was Colton Flinner in his best finish with ULMS, Jared Miley was fourth and became the new point leader followed by Hall of Famers, Steve Baker and Davey Johnson, Michael Davis, Brandon Burgoon, Jon Hodgkiss and Derek Stefanik.
