Dave Hess Jr WINS Nathan Lauer Memorial With United Late Model Series!

Waterford, Pennsylvania native Dave Hess Jr picked up his second Jay’s Automotive United Late Modes Series Victory of 2025 Saturday night at Marion Center Raceway piloting his #44 super late model to Close Racing Supply Victory Lane in the Townsend & Gas Oil 5th Annual Nathan Lauer Memorial Presented By American Racer Tires.

Hess’s victory was his second of three United Late Model Starts in 2025 putting his average finish positioning at 1.3 in #ULMS competition and extending his earnings with the United Late Model Series to $18,000.00 in 2025!

With twenty-eight entries signed in for competition the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series set out for Hot Laps in what was a quick night. Ryan Montgomery was fast time in hot laps and the only car to run a lap in the 14 second bracket all evening. Jon Lee set quick time in Group A with the “Crusher Kid” Michael Norris picking up the overall Quicktime with his fast lap in Group B that awarded him an additional $150.00 from Integra Racing Shocks.

A three wide salute with Marion Center Raceway Matt Martin to lead the field was conducted after qualifying with a moment of silence and a reading for the late Nathan Lauer in his memory and honor. A fan filled grandstand stood in silence together to remember Nathan while the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series paced the Marion Center Raceway’s dirt oval.

With four heats for the evening, Jon Lee and Logan Zarin lead the field to green in heat race one racing side by side but ultimately seeing the #5L of Lee pick up the win over Zarin and Lake. Current #ULMS Championship Point Leader Mason Zeigler and local Jared Miley raced for the lead into turn one in heat race number two. It was Ferree who would snag the second and final redraw spot away at the end from Miley with Zeigler adding another ULMS heat race win to his season. Norris, Montgomery, and Oakes started and finished one, two , and three in the third with Norris jumping out to a commanding lead over the field before crossing the finish line. Dave Hess Jr piloted his #44 to the fourth and final heat race win, meanwhile second starting Gregg Satterlee fell to third behind Colton Flinner completing Heat Race Action by 8:27PM!

With two B-Mains, the top three out of each would qualify for the 5th Annual Nathan Lauer Memorial! WV’s Matt Sponaugle won over Joe Petyak and Justin Weaver. Andrew Wylie won B-Main two over Rodney Phillips and Chris Schneider meanwhile Matt Martin and Dave Stamm would take provisionals completing all preliminary action by 8:31PM!

With 40 laps set to go green, it was Michael Norris and Jon Lee to lead the field to green in the 5th Annual Nathan Lauer Memorial. Norris was quick to jump out front and command a lead over Lee, Hess, and Zeigler. Zeigler who has been quick all year quickly faded back through the field with what turned out to be a broken torque arm on the #25z machine eliminated his chances at a fourth straight United Late Model Series Victory. Norris found lap traffic early which kept Hess within a few car lengths. Meanwhile behind them Montgomery and Miley were charging through the field alongside Gregg Satterlee. A caution for the #44 of Dylan Lewis on the backstretch ended his night due to mechanical failure, meanwhile the #22 of Greg Oakes pulled into the hot pit for maintenance. Back to green Hess and Ferree raced side by side for the second position behind race long leader Michael Norris. A slowed #9 of Levi Yetter on the top side of turn three and four meant the field would come together once again with six laps to go! Hess with an evasive move to the inside of Norris coming into one would make contact with one another and give the lead to Hess with four laps to go! Behind them Montgomery and Miley both had advanced into the top five while Chris Schnedier found himself in thirteenth from second. At the stripe it was Hess that would pick up the richest Nathan Lauer Memorial paying $7,500.00 to win over Norris, Ferree, Montgomery, and Miley!
