This coming weekend, the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series head north into the Empire State of New York for a pair of events. Friday, August 10 will see the third appearance of the year for the ULMS Late Models to Freedom Motorsports Park and Saturday, August 11 will see the ULMS Late Models take center stage at Genesee Speedway in Batavia NY.
The action begins Friday at Bob Reis owned Freedom Motorsport Park in Delevan, NY for the 30 lap $2500 to win event. Max Blair has won both ULMS events this year at Freedom and the last three ULMS events at Freedom dating back to last September. Last month’s race saw Blair and Mike Maresca battle it out until Blair pulled away.
Plenty of competition is expected at Freedom with Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame driver, Chub Frank making his first appearance to Freedom since the 1980s. Chub, the 2002 series champion has four career ULMS wins, with his last ULMS win being in 2011. He will be joined by his cousin and former two time series champion, Boom Briggs in the #99B Club29 machine. Doug Eck of Corry, PA will return to Freedom after missing the last event with no motor and in his own Longhorn ride. Maresca sitting second in series points will also be on hand coming off a successful Ohio Speedweek tour. Also on hand will be Mike Wonderling Jr., Jason Dobson, hometown favorite, Greg Oakes, Nathan Hill, Al Brewer, Dave Dubois, Andy Boozel and eastern New York late model driver Jon Rohacevich will be some that will be on hand for the event. Also, Murphy’s Logging will again put up $300 to the overall fast time in ULMS qualifying. Drivers Meeting will be at 6:50pm with all cars in the pits taking slow laps prior to hot laps. ULMS Integra Shocks qualifying presented by Murphy’s Logging will begin at 7:30PM right after opening ceremonies.
Saturday, will see the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Models head farther north in to New York State to Genesee Speedway in Batavia NY. The third mile county fairground oval will be hosting the ULMS Late Models for the second year in a row and it will be the third time since 1989 that full blown super late models have graced the Genesee county oval. Max Blair was the car to beat last year until a right rear tire cost him the win and Brady Wonderling raced his way to his first ever ULMS win. Brady is now running crate late models but his brother, Michael has many laps on the Batavia oval and no doubt will be a force to reckon with. Maresca will be making his first ever Genesee debut and he no doubt will have the New York state modified crowd behind him in support. The old time fans of Genesee Speedway will be pulling for the BrewMaster, Al Brewer who raced at Genesee Speedway when the track last held the late models weekly in the 1980s. The local favorite will be Dave Dubois, who competes regularly with his 360 late model. Race time on Saturday at Genesee for the 30 lap $3000 to win event is 6pm with the pits opening at 4pm.
Race teams are reminded that both tracks utilize the AMB Transponder system for scoring and timing. Entry Fee for the events will be $25 for Freedom and $30 for Genesee Speedway with the ULMS Tire rule in place. All entrants must go thru pre race tech and will be tech prior to entering the track all night long.
