The 2023 Steel City Stampede at Lernerville Speedway concluded the Jays Automotive United Late Model Series season. The rescheduled 2nd annual Ken Schaltenbrand Sr Memorial was on tap with the ULMS Late Models running for $4000 and topless.

Twenty Five Jay’s Automotive ULMS Late Models were on hand for the Ken Schaltenbrand Sr Memorial with track champion Michael Norris setting Lindemuth Laser Etching Qualifying Fast Time over the field. Norris, Tyler Emory and Tyler Dietz were the three heat race winners.

Matt Lux and Norris set the front row for the 30 lap Schaltenbrand Sr Memorial Lux making his final start of his career paced the field to the green with Norris taking over the top spot on lap one with Lux Dietz and levi Yetter quickly moving into second by l ap two. Alex Ferree was now up to third with Dietz fourth and Tyler Emory in fifth.

The car on the move with five laps in was Drake Troutman running the bottom as he got around Ferree for fourth and took third from Dietz on lap 8. Norris was in lap traffic with Yetter chasing after him. Emory would move into the fifth position on lap 10 with Ferree now sixth and Dylan Cecce right there behind the Cochran #1 machine. Emory would grab fourth from Dietz on lap 12 as Norris kept slicing thru lap traffic and Troutman was closing in fast on the Joe Corrado #10.

The first yellow came out at the half way point for John Garvin as Troutman was within a few car lengths of Norris. The running order was Norris, Troutman, Yetter, Emory, Dietz, Ferree, Michael Lake, Cecce Lux, Ken Schaltenbrand rounding out the top 10.

Norris refired the field in the Delaware restart with Troutman on the inside of the second row. Troutman rocketed off turn two blow past Norris as Yetter ducked down underneath Norris. Dylan Cecce now was in fifth ahead of Ferree. Yellow lights came out on lap 18 for Andrew Wylie, with Troutman you new leader with Norris, Yetter, Emory, Cecce, Ferree, Lux, Ryan Montgomery now in the top 10 running 8th.

Restart saw Troutman fire away with Emory now jumping into third behind Norris and Ferree up to fifth and Montgomery and Cecce fighting for sixth. Troutman kept a two car length lead over Norris at the Norris was rim riding around the Sarver oval with Emory sitting just behind the top duo. The caution came out again on lap 25 for Tyler Wyant who spun in turn two. With five to go it was still Troutman, Norris, Emory, Yetter, Feree, Michael Lake now your top six.

The single file restart again saw Troutman with the left front in the infield berm and Norris having his right rear against the outside cushion as they entered turn one. The top five were same but the battle for sixth was intense with Lake, Cecce, Montgomery and Lux. The caution came out on lap 26 for second place running Michael Norris who got the right rear over the cushion and spun in turn four relinquishing the second place spot to Emory. The final restart saw Troutman again accelerate from the bottom of the track and out race the 2023 Jays Automotive ULMS Late Model Series champion, Tyler Emory to the checker flag. It was Troutman’s first career ULMS win and he took home $4800 in total winnings. Alex Ferree came home third after restarting fifth on the final caution. Levi Yetter came home fourth followed by Michael Lake who held off a hornet nests of cars behind him including, Dylan Cecce, Colton Flinner from 23rd, Ryan Montgomery, Logan Zarin from 24th and Clinton Hersch rounded out the top ten.

Tyler Emory would wrap up his first ever Jay’s Automotive ULMS Late Model Series Championship and would also take home honors of the 2023 Chew On This Jerky Rookie of Year and the 2023 Lindemuth Laser Etching Fast Time championship in his first full season with ULMS.
