Dave Hess Jr Goes BACK-TO-BACK at Outlaw with the United Late Model Series

Pittsburgh, PA. – Waterford, Pennsylvania native Dave Hess Jr. scored his second straight Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series (ULMS) victory of 2025 Friday night at Outlaw Speedway, capturing the $10,000-to-win Arthur & Cynthia MacMillan Memorial.

The win marked Hess’s third victory in four ULMS starts this season, giving him an eye-popping 1.25 average finish and pushing his 2025 ULMS earnings to $28,000. It was also his third consecutive ULMS triumph at Outlaw Speedway.

A strong field of 26 entries signed in for action. In hot laps, Mason Zeigler set quick time at 14.030 seconds, but it was the #118 of Matt Cochran* who grabbed overall fast time in qualifying to earn the pole for Heat Race One.

Outlaw Speedway’s opening ceremonies included a moment of silence for the tragic passing of speaker Charlie Kirk, before the night’s racing kicked off with three ULMS heat races.

Heat 1: Cochran and Ross Robinson brought the field to green, with Robinson charging out front on the high side. Hess battled Cochran throughout before making a late pass for second, joining Robinson in the redraw.
Heat 2: Trever Feathers dominated early, while local favorite Dylan Cecce and rising star Brock Pinkerous worked forward. Cecce claimed second, but contact between Pinkerous and Amanda Robinson (#4) on the final lap ended Robinson’s night in heartbreaking fashion.
Heat 3: Series points leader Zeigler faced off with Trevor Collins, but it was Ryan Montgomery’s #12m who quickly took second and held it to the finish.

The 40-lap MacMillan Memorial went green with Robinson and Montgomery on the front row. An early jump by Montgomery drew a warning, but on the restart he powered to the lead with Cecce and Hess in hot pursuit.

Attrition became the story as the laps wore on:

Zeigler spun early but continued.
Pinkerous and Logan Zarin (#1z) both fell victim to engine woes.
Contact between Gregg Satterlee (#22) and Bryan Bernheisel (#119) left both with flats, ending Satterlee’s night.
Pole-sitter Robinson eventually retired from the event.

Through the chaos, Hess methodically worked into contention, battling Montgomery and Cecce for podium spots on each restart. Meanwhile, Demetrios Drellos (#111) stole the crowd’s attention, charging from 17th to 3rd before settling into the top five alongside veteran Mike Knight.

At the checkered flag, it was Hess once again standing tall, followed by Cecce, Montgomery, Knight, and Drellos.
