The Zimmer Service Center United Late Model Series made their first ever visit to Clinton County Motor Speedway in Mill Hall, PA on Friday night. The 90 degree temperatures didn’t slow down the competitors and Jonestown, PA second generation driver, Bryan Bernheisel for grabbing his first ever ULMS Series win and the $3000 top prize money.
Bernheisel and Alex Ferree were the front row starters with the 119 Lazer Chassis of Bernheisel leading the opening lap over Ferree, Jim Yoder, Coleby Frye and Dylan Yoder. With five laps in the field was setting a torrid pace as Ferree was hounding Bernheisel and coming up on lap traffic. By lap 7 the leaders had caught lap traffic with Max Blair now moving into the top five behind Frye.
Ferree kept the pressure on Bernheisel and made his move down the backstretch and thru turns 3 and 4 to grab the top spot as lap nine was completed. The first yellow waved on lap 11 for ULMS series point leader, Max Blair who apparently lost brakes and come to a stop on top of the track in turns 1 and 2.
This tighten the field back up and now with the A-Train leading the field in the Delaware restart. Bernheisel tried the top but the 4 of Ferree was in the lane while Dylan Yoder disposed of Frye for 4th and Matt Cochran and Mike Wonderling just outside the top 5. Another yellow with 12 laps to go tighten the field up again. On the restart Coleby Frye got a great run out of two and shot up to 3rd behind Ferree and Bernheisel as the father and son duo of Dylan and Jim Yoder battled for the fourth position. With five laps remaining it looked like the A-Train was going to grab is first ULMS win of the year and first ever Clinton County win when he pulled up to a quick stop in turn four bringing out the caution with a flat right rear tire handing the lead back over to Bernheisel.
Bernheisel took advantage of Ferree’s misfortune and lead the final five laps as Coleby Frye tried to grab the lead on the restart but had to settle for the runner up position over Dylan Yoder, Jim Yoder, Matt Cochran, Mike Wonderling, Devin Hart, Mike Smith, Dave Brouse Jr and Andrew Wylie who spun in turn four while running fifth on the final lap edged Jason Dobson for the tenth position.
The win was Bernheisel’s first career ULMS Series win and became the eighth different winner on the series in 2019 in the 10 events ran. Bryan drives the family owned Bernheisel Race Components, Russ Gibble Roofing & Siding, One Potato Two Potato Kettle Potato Chips, Hoosier Tire, Lazer Chassis. The #119 machine was the Integra Shocks Fast Time with overall time of 13.632 seconds. The heat winners were Bernheisel, Ferree and Frye.
