Dan Angelicchio Picks Up His First-Ever United Late Model Series Victory at Latrobe!

Pittsburgh, PA – Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania’s Dan Angelicchio captured his first career Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series (ULMS) victory in the early hours of Saturday morning at Latrobe Speedway, claiming the $3,000-to-win Fall Fest Prelim Presented by Chew On This – Jerky.

A field of 15 cars signed in for action. Mason Zeigler set quick time at 18.136 seconds, edging out Alex Ferree and Michael Lake.

Following opening ceremonies, the action went straight into two ULMS heat races:

Heat 1: Zeigler and Lake brought the field to green, with Zeigler quickly charging to the lead on the high side. Colton Flinner applied heavy pressure for second and ultimately made the pass late to finish runner-up behind the current ULMS point leader.

Heat 2: Ferree pulled away early as the field strung out. The lone pass came when John Weaver overtook Chris Schneider for fifth.

After Heat 2, a sudden thunderstorm forced a nearly three-hour rain delay. Once the track was reprepared, Series Director Trevor Zuver moved the ULMS feature to third on the running order.

The 20-lap Fall Fest Prelim went green with Ferree and Angelicchio on the front row. Angelicchio got the jump on the outside, taking the lead into turn one before the first of several cautions slowed the pace.

Attrition quickly became the theme of the night:

On lap one, John Weaver (W3) made hard contact with the turn-four wall.

Shortly after, Will Bristky slammed the frontstretch wall, bringing out the red and ending his night.

By lap seven, Angelicchio had already reached lapped traffic, putting the 10s of Stamm a lap down.

On lap 12, Nathan LaSalle (68) slowed to a stop on the backstretch, drawing another caution and retiring from the event.

With just three laps to go, contact left Michael Lake with a right-rear flat, forcing him pitside.

Through it all, Angelicchio stayed smooth and in control, stretching his advantage on each restart. Behind him, Ferree and Zeigler battled hard for second, with differing tire choices playing a role in the late-race restarts.

At the checkered, Angelicchio piloted his No. 14 machine into Close Racing Supply Victory Lane, ahead of Ferree and Zeigler, as a faithful crowd cheered after braving the storm and a long night of racing.
