Dick Barton wins ULMS Buesink Memorial on Night 2 of LiteHouse Auto “Fall Brawl” for historic 80th Stateline Super Late Model Victory!!!

Busti, NY (September 20, 2014):

Julian Buesink was remembered Saturday night of the LiteHouse Auto “Fall Brawl”. The Memorial race, Presented by Roberts Trucking, had originally scheduled to run in August but weather delayed it so long the original format was abandoned and it was combined with the season-ending ULMS feature. History was made as Dick Barton surpasses Bobby Schnars as the winningest driver in Stateline’s history with a pass for the lead on the next to final lap on race-long leader Chris Hackett.

Max Blair started the 40-lap Julian Buesink Memorial Presented by Roberts Trucking on the pole with Chris Hackett on the outside. Hackett rocketed into the lead at the start of the race over Blair with Dick Barton running third. Caution flew at lap seven just as the leaders were catching the tail of the field when John Volpe looped his mount in turn four. On green two cars got together in turn four and Chub Frank, who had earlier set the track record at 14.982 seconds in qualifying, slammed an infield marker tire, destroying the front end of his car while running fourth.

When the race was again green Barton immediately got by Blair and set out to get by Hackett. At lap nine Jake Finnerty spun in turn two, putting Barton and Blair back side by side behind Hackett for the restart. Finnerty spin again in turn one. Under yellow Max Blair experienced mechanical ails in the rear of his racer, and retired to the pit. At fifteen into the race Rob Blair was next to Barton for second but the ten-time champion was again ahead of the 2014 champion the next lap by the flag. At halfway the leaders had caught the rear of the field with Hackett enjoying a six car-length lead as they started through the field.

At lap twenty-four Mike Knight suddenly lost power on the front straight, again slowing the event. Caution flew again only one lap later when Duane Stiner and Steve Kania got together. At ten laps to go Hackett was pulling away from Barton with Rob Blair third Matt Urban fourth (from 15th on he grid) and Boom Briggs fifth. With four laps remaining Barton had made up the distance and tried to get by on the low side but Hackett again pulled ahead, then slipped wide with two laps remaining allowing both Barton and Blair to get alongside then Barton got by in turn three coming to the white flag for the record-setting win, bettering the record set by Busti, NY’s Bobby Schnars In 1977. Barton’s car-owner, John Lacki, had wrapped the car in the black and orange 28B livery of previous Barton car-owner Ron Nielson, the car-owner for the majority of Barton’s wins. Hackett finished the grind in second with Rob Blair third, 22nd-starting Jason DuPont fourth, and fifteenth starting Urban fifth.
