Hess Wins Meaningful “Mike Farr Memorial” with the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series.

Waterford, Pennsylvania resident Dave Hess Jr captured his first Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series victory of the year last Sunday at Eriez Speedway in the seventh annual “Mike Farr Memorial”!  Worth $4,100.00 to begin with, Hess ended up taking home $5,524.00 after it was all said and done.  Putting his #44 Longhorn Chassis in Close Racing Supply victory lane was an accomplishment for the #44 team, but solidifying his name in the history books as a winner of the coveted “Mike Farr Memorial” meant so much more.

Another swift program was pushed out by Series Director Trevor Zuver as they worked closely with Dave Alexander and the staff at Eriez Speedway.  An early medical emergency in the general grandstands halted the event for a mere thirty minutes; that didn’t stop the United Late Model Series for having their program finished in approximately two hours.  For the third event of the week for the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series, another stellar crowd was noted to be on hand at the speedway to watch the drivers take action all night long!

With 28 entries, the Jay’s United Late Model Series set out for Lindemuth Laser Etching Qualifying which saw Mike Knight set  fast time in Group A and overall with a lap time of 15.383. Max Blair set the quickest time in Group B with a lap time 15.509.   Knight would go on to lead wire to wire and win Rocket Chassis heat race number one, Lindemuth Laser Etching Elite Driver Logan Zarin won Keizer Racing Wheels heat race number two.  Dave Hess Jr won Swift Springs heat race number three and Chub Frank claimed Beyea Headers fourth and final heat race of the night.  Two United Construction & Pressure Washing Heat Race’s were claimed by Logan Jaquay and Douglas Eck, the top three in each advanced into the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series “Mike Farr Memorial” main event. Three Rivers Karting & Entertainment Park redraw put Ripley, NY’s Mike Knight and Moon Township, PA’s Logan Zarin on the front row.

After a swift intermission, the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series took the green flag in honor and memory of “Mike Farr”. Sixth starting Matt Tift would draw the first caution of the night on lap two, after resetting the field the feature saw six more cautions up until lap 29 where they would then run green to checkered.  Knight, who had come out to an early and demanding lead over Hess led the first 27, Zarin snuck around the bottom in third watching the two leaders battle it out in lap traffic. As the lap 29 debri caution came out, the battle for the top three had heated up and dissipated with the yellow. The field lined back up and watched Hess take over to lead the rest of the event and claim his first “Mike Farr Memorial” victory worth $5,524.00.  Knight, who came in second ended up with $3,794.00 himself for his second place effort as well over the late charging 1* of Chub Frank.

The Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series thanks everyone that came out in support of the seventh annual “Mike Farr Memorial” and the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series as they returned Eriez Sunday in honor of Mike Farr. The track prep team put together an excellent surface for the teams to navigate around the ⅜ mile dirt oval with teams racing from the top to the bottom.  Next up for the Jay’s Automotive United Late Model Series is Path Valley Speedway’s “NIGHT OF POWER” paying $5000 to win and $500 to start Friday, July 19th, 2024.
