The 2022 Zimmer’s Service Center ULMS Late Model Series kicked off last night at the legendary Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA. Gregg Satterlee turned back the other 20 competitors to win the rain shortened season opener.
Kyle Hardy and Andy Haus paced the field to the green flag as Haus jumped the cushion in turn 1 and 2 losing several spots and Hardy quickly went to the front. The first caution was flown as the field completed the opening lap. Hardy refired the field and it was short lived as lap two was completed and ULMS full time driver and Chew on This Jerky Rookie of Year contender, Colton Flinner brought the caution out as he hooked the cushion and getting the car off the ground and thankfully it landed on all four wheels but he was done for the night.
Hardy refired the field again and lap 6 the yellow lights flashed for Mike Lupfer who came to a stop on the front stretch. The field again got one lap in and the red flag was shown as the a quick down pour hit the track and the officials sent the field into the pit area. After a short delay the race resumed and it was still Hardy in the lead but now Satterlee was second coming from his sixth place starting spot. Satterlee pressured Hardy until lap 10 when Hardy slowed suddenly as he lost the drive shaft ending his night and handing the lead over to Satterlee. This put Rick Eckert on his back bumper as Eckert tried to keep the pace with Satterlee and he soon felt the pressure of 18th place starting Jason Covert.
As the laps clicked off the yellow lights came back on at lap 20 when rain hit the track again and series officials ended the event at lap 20 as it was past the half way point of the race deeming a completed event. Satterlee would pick up his 12th career Zimmer’s Service Center ULMS Late Model Series win. Eckert finished ahead of Covert followed by Gene Knaub and Haus rebounded to come home fifth.
Satterlee set the overall Integra Shocks Fast Time in hot lap qualifying and the three heat winners were Satterlee, Hardy and Jared Miley. Satterlee took a extra $100 for redrawing the worse pill in the Jay’s Auto Wrecking Unlucky Dog Redraw.
The series event on Saturday was postponed due to weather and will be made up next Saturday giving the series and two day weekend with Williams Grove on Friday night. The event tomorrow at Port Royal is still on with a one hour earlier starting time.
