It’s hard to believe that this weekend is the 4th of July weekend, which marks unofficially the halfway point in the summer racing season. The Zimmer Service Center “Million Dollar Tour” for the ULMS Late Model Series will have four events along the New York and Pennsylvania border with a pair of $4000 to win events and a pair of $3000 to win events and a possible $22,000 up for grabs!
It all kicks off on Thursday, July 1 as the ULMS Late Model Series rolls back into their hometown track, McKean County Raceway in East Smethport PA for the Firecracker 40 that will pay $4000 to the winner. Wyatt Scott picked up his second career ULMS win at MCR last month on a last lap pass of one of the hottest late model drivers in the northern region, Dave Hess Jr. Both drivers won over the weekend at their weekly tracks and no doubt will be looking to find victory lane again. ULMS will be led by three time defending series champion, Max Blair and Chew on This Jerky Rookie of Year drivers, Ryan Scott and Deshawn Gingerich. Other drivers expected to be on hand are Jason Dobson, Garrett Mott, Greg Oakes, Mike Smith, Bryce Davis and others. Race time is 730pm Thursday night at MCR.
On Friday, July 2, the series makes its first visit to Freedom Motorsports Park for the first time since 2019. The Pete Loretto Memorial paying $3000 to win in the 30 lap event that will see $3000 in lap money and another $900 in position money for the racers. Wyatt Scott is the current point leader at Freedom with his two wins on the year with Mike Wonderling grabbing the opening night event. Dutch Davies was on his way to win last Friday night at Freedom before a flat tire snatched the victory from the Warren driver. All three drivers along with Greg Oakes, Bob Dorman, Dobson, Smith will all be looking to take home the big money. Joining those drivers will be Blair, Ryan Scott, Gingerich and World of Outlaw national driver, Boom Briggs who has won at Freedom in 2018 along with Bryce Davis and David Scott. Race time is 730pm Friday night at Freedom Motorsports Park.
The series will roll into Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY on Saturday July 3rd for a $3000 to win event. This will be the first time ULMS has been at Stateline since 2015. The last three schedule events have been lost due to weather and last year with the Covid pandemic. The Stateline regulars are always tough on their home turf and Dave Hess Jr., will no doubt be the one to watch for the regulars along with Wyatt Scott, Darrell Bossard, Jake Finnerty, Bump Hedman and Oakes who has a win at the Busti oval in 2021. ULMS point leader, Blair knows his way around the oval also as he has multiple championships and wins also at Stateline along with Ryan Scott. Racing starts at 7pm Saturday night at Stateline Speedway.
The four day holiday weekend comes to a close on 4th of July at Eriez Speedway with the 5th annual Mike Farr Memorial. The 41 lap event in memory of the owner of Genesis Shocks will pay $4100 to win and has over $5300 in lap money. Chub Frank picked up the very popular win last year. Other past winners were Greg Oakes in 2019, in 2018 it was Max Blair with Jared Miley in 2017. Hess has been dominant at Eriez this year but last week saw Mike Knight, the former multi ULMS series champion find victory lane and he will no doubt be looking to grab the big money. Steve Kania, Hedman, Oakes, Kyle Bedell, Khole Wanzer will all be looking to stop any of the ULMS stars and other outsiders such as Miley, Mike Norris, Alex Ferree and others in the one of the areas most prestigious events. Someone could go home with over $9000 Sunday night alone. Race time is 630pm Sunday with a rain date scheduled for Monday July 5th.
ULMS Racing Series procedures will be in place, which includes Integra Shocks time trials, minimum 8 lap qualifying heat events, consolation events, Jay’s Auto Wrecking Scramble and the main event.
