The Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series will be making their first ever visit to Trail Way Speedway in Hanover PA for the Viper Motorsports promoted Ervin “Junior” Eckert Memorial paying $6000 to win. The 50 lap main event in honor and memory of Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, Rick Eckert father, who was a local racing legend as well.
The event dreamed of and put together by Viper Motorsports Company, promotional guru, Shawn Martin with the blessing of Rick Eckert will see the super late models of the northeast and mid atlantic region converge to the 1/3 mile oval that does not host super late models and giving everyone equal footing when they roll into the speedway grounds for the first time. “Nobody is going to have a unfair advantage, when they come to Trail Way, the top teams that are prepared will be the teams that will succeed, stated Martin.” ULMS Racing Series, owner, Chris Zuver stated, “We are proud to be part of this inaugural event as I have always been a fan of Rick Eckert, and when Shawn Martin reached out to me last fall to be part of the Viper Motorsports Promotions this year, I didn’t really know how big things could get and I am excited and humbled to be part of the Viper Motorsports Company race events promotions.”
Wyatt Scott is the current point leader for the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series heading into Bradford Speedway due to a tie breaker in wins over Doug Eck who sits second in points despite having the same number of points (72) as the young Scott. Other expected notable ULMS entries to be on hand are previous, Mike Pegher, Jason Dobson, Max Blair and Steve Scaife. They will be joined by notable local and regional stars beginning with Rick Eckert, Gregg Satterlee, Jason Covert, Ross Robinson, Coleby Frye, Bryan Bernheisel, Dylan Yoder, Dale Hollidge, Tyler Horst, Alex Ferree, Dan Stone, Luke Hoffner and many others.
Max Blair of Centerville, PA currently holds the 2R Excavating Hard Charger of the Year point battle over Mike Knight, David Scott, Michael Lake and Brad Mesler. Mike Pegher currently holds the Jays Auto Wrecking – Integra Shocks Fast Time of Year point chase lead over Matt Lux. Wyatt Scott of Garland, PA currently leads the Chew on This Jerky ULMS Rookie of Year battle over Jason Dobson, and Steve Scaife
With this event being a Viper Motorsports Promotional event, the race procedures will be a little different than a normal ULMS Racing Series event.
Rules for event:
Tire Rule – Hoosier 1300’s all 4 corners, 1325 & 1425 RR Option, American Racer 44’s all 4 corners with 48 RR Option.
Lucas Oil Series Rules except you can run a 29.0 on the LR if you choose to. Jeff Sweitzer has been hired by Viper Motorsports for tech director for the event along with the ULMS tech staff led by Jeff Shaw.
Format: (same format at 2019 Billy Vacek Memorial)
-Group A & B Time Trials
-Top 2 from each time trial group automatically lock into the A & B Scrambles
-4 heat races. Heat race winners join locked in cars from time trials for A & B Scrambles
-Two b-mains (heat 1 & 2 non-qualifiers)/(heat 3 & 4 non- qualifiers)
-Scramble A Cars (top 2 from group A and heat race 1 & 2 winners line up the first 4 rows inside (1,3,5,7)
-Scramble B Cars (top 2 from group B and heat race 3 & 4 winners line up the first 4 rows inside (2,4,6,8)
-Overall Scramble winner has lane choice for front row
-Heat race and b-main qualifiers line up heads up for feature.
-22 cars will qualify and 2 provisional starters for feature. Fast time provisional and top ULMS point non-qualifier.
-2 cars at a time – time trials.
-10 lap heat races (Delaware double file restarts until passed halfway point for restarts)
-12 lap b-mains (Delaware double file restarts until passed halfway point for restarts)
-2 lap scramble(s) for the pole to set top 8 starting spots
-50 lap feature (Delaware double file restarts until 10 laps to go for restarts, single file restarts after)
-2 minute tire change for first 25 laps under caution
-no guaranteed time once lap 26 is counted in feature
-jump starts result in being moved back a row
-all starts call for cars to be nose to tail, side by side. no fanning out in either direction. Leader / pole sitter initiates the start.
-brake check starts result in being sent to tail (no one in interested in stacking up the whole field on purpose)
-Once cars are in staging and cleared by tech, all crew members must vacate the area by their cars
-Top 3 in feature to front stretch after feature is over. Once top 3 are done on front stretch, Jeff Sweitzer will direct you to where he will do post race tech.
Right now, the race will pay $6,000 to win. We are finishing up sponsors now. By the end of the week, we will be posting the total purse. It is getting better by the day right now! Pits open at 3pm while ULMS registration will open at 530pm with ULMS tech opening immediately. General admission is $25, Students 12-17 $10, 11 and under are free and all pit passes are $36. It is recommended that all teams, please print off the new 2020 ULMS Registration form from the website at http://ulmsracing.com/ulms-driver-registration/ to speed up the process and help limit overcrowding and keep the social distancing as much as possible. W9 form and driver info sheet that will be posted online in the near future, please fill those out also and bring to the track. ULMS Registration will end and driver meeting will be time will be announced next week and the driver meeting will be at the ULMS Command Center. ULMS Hot Laps along with ULMS Integra Shock Qualifying time will be announced next week leading up to the race. ULMS Entry Fee will be $75 for the event and the series ask please bring correct change if possible to limit exposure and stick with the CDC guidelines as much as possible. Trail-Way Speedway uses the MyLaps X2 Transponders for timing and scoring.
