The 20th anniversary season is 4 weeks away from kicking off the 2020 season for the Zimmer Service Center United Late Model Series (ULMS). Today, series President, Chris Zuver announced that a $10,000 bonus is up for grabs and a possible $24,000 championship prize to one driver!
With the new schedule split between the North and South Regions for 2020, the ULMS Late Model Series will have potentially two champions as each region will pay $7000 to win. If one driver can win both region championships, they will be rewarded a $10,000 bonus and become the first ever Zimmer Service Center ULMS National Champion and $24,000 for their efforts.
ULMS Series President, Chris Zuver, commented on the new two regions; “In the past few years we have tried to stretch our boundaries hoping to attract new teams from outside our normal region to follow the series. What we have seen is that some racers are no longer willing to travel more than a few hours for a regional series. There are many racers who want to follow us, but the southern / eastern teams don’t want to travel four hours to Eriez or Genesee and the northern teams do not want to travel that same distance to Williams Grove or Port Royal region.”
Someone could win $24,000 and only leave the state of Pennsylvania for nine events. The first non PA event will be Friday May 22nd at Freedom Motorsports Park in Delevan, NY, followed by a Saturday June 20th event at Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, NY. The next event out of Pennsylvania are back to back events on July 3rd and 4th at Freedom and Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY. Genesee Speedway in Batavia, NY will be the next event held in New York on August 8th followed by back to back events at Freedom for the Fall Classic weekend on September 5th and 6th. The Greater Cumberland Speedway in Cumberland, Maryland on October 10th with the season ending event held on Halloween weekend at Georgetown, Delaware. Events held in Pennsylvania are two events at Williams Grove, three events at Port Royal, one event at Bedford, a pair of events at Selinsgrove Speedway along with single events at Lincoln and Trail Way Speedway. Single events at Bradford, Hidden Valley, Eriez Speedway along with pair of events at Thunder Mountain Speedway round out the Pennsylvania events on the 2020 schedule.
“One of our major focuses in conducting our series has been to cultivate good relationships with all of our participating tracks, operators, and racers. Many have stated they want to follow our program but traveling long distances has prohibited them from competing full time with ULMS.”
For the 2020 season, which will also mark the 20th anniversary season for the Zimmer Service Center United Late Model Series, we will be split into a northern and southern region which will feature two separate point funds. Both regions have approximately 12 events on the total 24 event 2020 schedule.
The 2020 season opening weekend will be Friday, March 20th thru March 22nd at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA and back to back events at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, PA. This will be opening weekend for the ULMS Southern Region. Rick Eckert won the ULMS event last March at Williams Grove as it was the series first ever visit to the legendary central PA oval. Jason Covert, Michael Norris and Max Blair won the three ULMS events at Port Royal this past season.
At the present time, Thunder Mountain Speedway will be hosting the ULMS Northern Region season opener on Friday, May 15th followed by a Friday May 22nd event at Freedom Motorsports Park.
So, the challenge is been offered to the teams! Who is licking their lips to tackle the full 24 event ULMS schedule and go for the potential $24,000 ULMS National Championship prize?
