A packed grandstands was on hand at Old Bradford Speedway for the 3rd annual Battle of the Bullring. The event marked the 200th event in Zimmer Service Center ULMS Series history and was the fifth event in series history at the old historic high bank ¼ mile. The Slowride of David Scott picked up the very popular win!
The front row for the 40 lap main event saw Max Blair and Doug Eck on the front row with Blair clearing Eck at the start with Mike Wonderling David Scott in tow. Inaugural winner of the Battle of the Bullring, Boom Briggs was door to door with Greg Oakes at the conclusion of lap 1. Oakes would grab the fifth spot on lap 2.
Blair started to pull away slightly as Wonderling and Eck were door to door and Nathan Hill was challenging Briggs for 6th. Five laps in saw Blair, Wonderling, Eck, David Scott, Oakes, Hill and Briggs still in contention. Blair had built up a half a straight away over Wonderling.
By lap ten Blair had pulled away to a straightaway lead over Wonderling who still was being challenged by Eck. The first yellow came out on lap 12 for Cody Egner who spun in turn 2. Eck would get around Wonderling on the restart as contact between the two would get the #18 sideways stacking up field bringing out the yellow for Jason Dobson, Nathan Hill and Egner again. The field restarted again and this time a lap was completed before the yellow lights flashed again for Wonderling who came to a stop in turn 4.
Lap 13 restart would see David Scott rocketing to the topside of Eck for second, while Briggs was hounding Oakes for sixth. Scott would grab 2nd on lap 16 and would start to reel in Blair using the top side still. At the halfway point the caution came out again for Egner. This tighten the field up again.
On the restart Blair led Scott, Eck, Oakes and Briggs. Scott was all over the back of the #111 and then pulled beside Blair to challenge for the lead as the crowd was on their feet. Blair went to the top of the track and Slowride went to the bottom and on lap 28 in déjà vu of the night before at Genesee, Scott used the inside lane to propel himself to the top of the leader board. Scott would begin to pull away from Blair over the remaining laps as Wonderling and Briggs battled for fifth. At the finish, David Scott would become the third different Battle of the Bullring winner and winning the series 200th event over Blair, Eck, Oakes and Briggs rounding out the top 5. Max Blair was the Integra Shock Fast Qualifier with a new track record breaking Boom Briggs previous track record which was set during hot laps.
ULMS is back in action this Friday night at Freedom Motorsports Park for the annual USMC Corporal Jason Dunham Memorial.
