Defending series champion and current point leader, Max Blair and Tyler County Speedway fan favorite, Jacob Hawkins took the two Mega 100 Weekend wins at Tyler County Speedway over the weekend during the Zimmer Service Center ULMS Late Model Series action.
Blair picked up the win Friday night after a spirited battle with defending track champion Kyle Thomas until lap 16 saw Blair take the lead for good and check out to a 4.5 second win. Blair’s win was his first ULMS win of the season and was worth $3000. Max became the fifth different winner in the first five events. Blair added to his all time series wins list to 21 wins. 15 cars were on hand with the #111 machine posting overall fast time in Integra Shocks qualifying.
Tyler County fan favorite, Jacob Hawkins picked up the $5,000 prize money on Saturday nights finale. Kyle Thomas and Max Blair who had a nice side by side battle on Friday night set the pace for the 40 lap finale. Thomas got the initial jump in his black and yellow #57 Punisher chassis only to see the black and green #111 of Blair sweep around him in turn four to lead the opening lap. The race saw early race cautions to keep the field slowed down but once extended period of laps were completed Blair was leading Jacob Hawkins with Colton Burdette, Greg Oakes and Jared Hawkins all in the mix for third.
Jacob Hawkins would hound Blair for majority of the race until “The Jet” Jared Miley entered the picture and found himself in third working the bottom and closing in on the leaders with ten to go. Miley would take the lead momentarily in turn two only to lose it back to Blair and see Jacob Hawkins regain second. As the trio entered lap traffic, the hotly contested battle for the lead had the crowd on the feet until the caution came out with contact between Miley and Alex Ferree with six laps remaining.
The restart saw Blair drive to the bottom of turn 1 and 2 with Hawkins to the top in his Sweet Bloomquist #8 machine. On the other end Blair went to the top with Hawkins to the bottom and the pair were side by side with Hawkins grabbing the lead in turn one. The duo charged down the backstretch and Blair was a car length behind Hawkins and charged back by out of turn four. As the leaders raced into turn one the pair made contact resulting in Blair to have a left rear tire go flat as both Hawkins and Miley raced by. Blair would come to a stop resulting in a caution for a tire change as would Thomas who was running fifth. Greg Oakes found himself now in third with Jared Hawkins in fourth and Burdette in fifth. The restart would see Hawkins pull away from Miley as Jared Hawkins and Oakes made contact resulting in the New York driver getting turned the wrong direction.
A green checkered finish would see Jacob Hawkins hold off Miley for his first career Zimmer Service Center United Late Model Series win. Burdette came home third followed by Mike Wonderling and Jared Hawkins.
The Super 6 Late Model Series debut for the first time in 2019 with the ULMS Late Models as Mike Hays of Somerset, PA came from 10th place with ninth place starter Levi Spinneweber to chase down front row starter and race leader Curtis Stivason to grab the first ULMS Super 6 Late Model Series event at Tyler County. Following Hays was Spinneweber, Stivason, Mike Spinnewebber and Frank McFeathers.
Saturday’s Super 6 Late Model Series event saw Levi Spinneweber come from his ninth place starting spot to grab the lead on lap 3 and lead the next 12 circuits to grab his first win of the year. Pole sitter Mike Anderson tried to keep up with Levi but had to settle for second with outside pole sitter Curtis Stivason finishing third for the second night in a row. Mike Spinneweber and Frank McFeathers rounded out the top five.
