Thursday Night Thunder at McKean County Raceway with the Zimmer’s Service Center ULMS Late Model Series making their first visit of the year for the $3000 Dick Rice Memorial. Centerville, Pennsylvania’s Max Blair picked up the win as he torched the late model field lapping up to the third place finisher.
The 30 lap $3000 to win Dick Rice Memorial was up next for the Zimmer’s Service Center ULMS Late Model Series event. Max Blair and Nathan Hill were on the front row based off random pill draw of the top nine heat qualifiers. Blair immediately was in front with ULMS regular, Charlie Powell Jr quickly in second with Hill sliding to third after lap 1. All-time ULMS winner, Rob Blair quickly moved into fourth from his seventh position and by lap five was challenging Powell for third as the younger Blair was pulling away from the field. Powell and Rob Blair put on a battle of the ages for second as Max Blair extended his lead by a full straightaway by lap 10 and was already lapping the back markers. Lap 12 saw Blair and Powell make contact while getting around the lap car of Devin Lewis and one lap later seeing the yellow lights for a mutli car accident. This put the elder Blair on the rear bumper of his son along with Powell and Dave Hess Jr. Lap 14 saw Hess get a great run out of turn two and sweep by Blair and Powell for second. Lap 15 saw Rob Blair go pitside giving third back to Powell. For the next five laps, Hess started to chip away at Max Blair’s big lead by being two tenths of a second faster. With ten to go, Blair decided to change lanes and went to the top of the track and the black #111 Rocket Chassis became a true rocket as he clicked off lap speeds two miles per hour faster than anyone else and quickly laps tenth place. With 4 laps to go the fifth place car of Dorman was lapped and with two to go Brent Rhebergan the fourth place car went victim of the torrid pace Blair was setting and as Curtis Peters waved the checkered flag for Blair’s second ULMS win of the year, he was pushing the third place finisher of Powell across the line lapping up to the third place finisher. Finishing behind Blair was Hess, Powell, Rhebergen and Greg Oakes grabbed fifth on the final lap.
ULMS will be back in action on July 14th at MCR for the USMC Corporal Jason Dunham Memorial paying $2500 to win and the next night ULMS will make its first visit in seven years to Freedom Motorsports Park.
