The ULMS stars roll into MCR on Thursday night fresh off the Max Blair’s win two weeks ago as he destroyed the field by lapping up to the third place finisher.   The USMC Cpl Jason Dunham Memorial is in honor and memory of Scio, NY native, who’s father was a long time MCR late model veteran.  Corporal Dunham was fatally wounded in Karabilah, Iraq in April 2004.  Dunham was manning a checkpoint with other US Marines, when he was attacked by a Iraqi assailant.  During the struggle the assailant dropped a grenade with the pin removed.   Dunham jumped on the grenade covering it with is kevlar helmet and body to smother the blast.  Corporal Dunham died eight days later at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.  Corporal Dunham would receive the Medal of Honor in 2006 from former President George Bush.

“McKean County Raceway is honored to blessed to honor and keep the memory of a true American hero, in Jason Dunham for his heroic efforts to protect his fellow Marines.  Men like Corporal Dunham is the reason why we American’s have the liberty to enjoy our every day lives and fun activities we enjoy, whether its stock car racing or going out for dinner with our families.  Not only is MCR in forever debt for his and so many other fallen soldiers ultimate sacrifice, we can not thank those for keeping America safe and we are proud to keep the life and memory United States Marine Corporal Jason Dunham from fading, commented ULMS Series owner, Chris Zuver.”

The Zimmer’s Service Center ULMS Late Models will head to Freedom Motorsports Park on Friday night.  This will be the first super late model event at Freedom since the last ULMS visit in 2009.   The “Captain” Jason Dupont came home the winner that night for his only ULMS win of his career.  The 2014 ULMS champion will be looking to pick up his second ULMS win of  his career where he picked up his first win.

“We are really looking forward to returning to Freedom for their first super late model event since 2009, stated Zuver.”  “Freedom has had some tough economic times over the past several years but now with new owner, Bob Reis, things are looking much better.”  Past ULMS winners at Freedom are Ron Davies, Chad Ruhlman and Jason Dupont.
