Joel Watson Wins UEMS 2017 Season Opener at Mercer Raceway Park
Mercer, PA, (March 25, 2017)
The Zimmer’s Service Center ULMS Racing Series opened its 2017 season with the UEMS Emod Series fueled by Sunoco Fuels of Insinger Performance at Mercer Raceway Park with thirteen cars competing in the “Chiller Thriller”.
After two heats won by Josh Ferry and Dave Scott, the feature line-up was set with Josh Ferry and Joel Watson starting from the front row for the 25 lap $1,000 to win season opener.
Defending two time series champion, Joel Watson took the lead at the drop of the green with Ferry second and Scott third. The first and only caution came out with six laps complete as, Al Brewer, Shawn Shingledecker and Mike McGee got tangled up in turn two. Shingledecker left the event on the hook as Brewer and McGee continued.
When the race went back to green, Scott came to second over Ferry while Dan Davies held fourth and 2012 series champion, Carl McKinney sat in fifth. At the halfway point, Watson had a half straight lead over Slowride. McKinney got by Davies for fourth with less than five to go. With two laps remaining, Scott had reeled in Watson as lap traffic played into play but was unable to get by for the win.
Watson picked up where he left off in 2016 with winning the UEMS event. The defending series champion revealed a brand new race car for the 2017 season as he targets the $1000 Zimmer’s Service Center UEMS Emod Series fueled by Sunoco Fuels of Insinger Performance championship.
