Hammett, PA (August 14, 2016):

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series joined, the Zimmer’s Service Center United E-Mod Series at Eriez Speedway.  The UEMS “Night with the Outlaws” had a $2,000 to win, 30-lap event which drew 26 cars on a day that saw heavy rain wash everything away south of the speedway.  Past series champion, Joel Watson of Conneaut Ohio and former track champion found the gas pedal and came home with his first UEMS win since 2013.

The first feature of the evening was the 30-lap, $2000 to win Zimmer Service Center UEMS E-Mod special. Former class champion Joel Watson started on the pole with Steve Sornberger Jr on the outside front row. Watson grabbed the lead right at the drop of the green with fourth-starting David Scott coming to second at the end of lap one. With three laps complete John Boyd and Eric Reinwald got together in turn one with Reinwald winding up against the wall. Scott and Dan Davies started in the row directly behind Watson for the restart but only one lap was complete before Billy Henry slowed on the front straight. During this caution Scott pulled pitside with problems, leaving Davies now second and Mike Kinney third. Six cars piled up in turn two at the restart, resulting in a red flag due to the track being blocked.  The pileup included last week’s winner Bruce Powell, who headed pitside, Jacob Eucker, Al Brewer, Carl McKinney, David Pangrazio, and Ken Zimmer. Pangrazio, McKinney, and Brewer also headed pitside with all but Brewer returning prior to the restart. Watson again led after green with Kinney second and Rich Michael Jr third, dropping Davies back to fourth. Davies was back to third at eight laps complete when yellow again was shown, this time for McKinney, stopped in turn two. During this caution, second-running Michael Jr headed to the pit but returning before green again flew. At fourteen laps complete the top five were Watson, by a quarter lap over Dan Davies with Kinney third, Troy Johnson fourth , and tenth starting Mike McGee but Davies came to a halt on turn four, resulting in another yellow at the halfway point. Caution flew for the sixth time when Eric Reinwald spun in turn four. Watson led Kinney and McGee back to green but at lap twenty Rich Michael and Brandon Blackshear got together in turn three, again slowing the race. With eight to go Shane Crotty came to third but McGee held it again at the end of 23. With five to go Watson led Kinney, McGee, Crotty, and John Boyd. At the checkers Watson had a near half lap lead with the rest of the top five remaining the same.
